Two new external
representatives, Lynn Woolfrey and Dillon Mann, have joined the City’s Open
Data Steering Committee:
Lynn Woolfrey is
the Manager of the DataFirst Data Service at the University of Cape Town.
She is a data specialist with
more than 20 years’ experience curating and sharing African research data and
promoting Open Data in Africa. She is
also involved in projects to improve the quality of African data by training
data managers in government and research institutions in South Africa and other
African countries. She teaches Research Data Management skills to information
professionals and postgraduate students and has an MPhil degree in Information Studies
from the University of Cape Town. Her thesis examined best practice for data
curation to support fact-based policymaking in African countries.
Dillon Mann is Communications and Campaigns Director at the World
Wide Web Foundation.
Based in Cape Town, Dillon leads
communications across all of the World Wide Web’s Foundation’s programmes and
projects internationally. He is actively involved in the Foundation's open data
work, including projects such as the international Open Data Charter (an
international set of open data principles and best practices), and the Open
Data Barometer (a study into the use and impact of open data worldwide). Prior
to joining the Foundation in 2013, Dillon worked at communications agencies in
both the UK and South Africa.
