City advises of critical electricity upgrades in large parts of Southern and Far South areas

The City advises residents in large parts of the Southern and Far South areas of Cape Town of an upcoming electricity supply interruption for infrastructure upgrades. It will be carried out from 20:00 on Saturday, 10 October 2026, to 06:00 on Sunday, 11 October 2026. Due to the scale and complexity of this upgrade work, some areas shown on the outage map may not be affected, while others not included may experience interruptions. The City apologises for any inconvenience due to the typical reality of electrical work impacting large areas.
The work will be carried out from 20:00 on Saturday, 10 October 2026 until 06:00 the next day, on 11 October 2026, if all goes to plan.
The City previously communicated about planned critical electricity upgrades for Muizenberg, Clovelly, Sun Valley and surrounding areas that was scheduled for 19 September 2026. This work was postponed and has now been incorporated into the planned maintenance scheduled for Saturday, 10 October 2026.
By combining the two outages, the City was able to optimise the use of resources, funding and outage scheduling: avoiding the significant cost and extended service disruption that a separate, delayed intervention would have entailed.
The following areas will likely be affected due to the scheduled critical electricity upgrades. Note due to the scale and typical complexity of electrical work, some areas indicated might not go off:

The electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the planned upgrade work. Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on.
Due to the scale and complexity of this upgrade work, some areas shown on the outage map and list above may not be affected, while others may experience interruptions. Although every effort is made to accurately identify affected areas, the electricity network does not always align with geographical boundaries.
