City and the Friends of Muizenberg Park strengthen partnership through tree planting

The City of Cape Town and the Friends of Muizenberg Park marked their continued partnership through an Adopt-A-Tree planting event at Muizenberg Park. Read

The initiative forms part of the City's broader tree planting efforts to grow Cape Town's urban forest, enhance biodiversity and create more resilient and welcoming public spaces.

The trees planted at Muizenberg Park are Wild Camphor Bush (Tarchonanthus camphoratus).

Through the Adopt-A-Tree programme, the City continues to encourage residents to play an active role in protecting and expanding Cape Town's urban forest while fostering community pride and environmental awareness.

‘Friends groups play an incredibly important role in helping us care for and improve the public spaces that communities value. Partnerships such as the one between the City and the Friends of Muizenberg Park create a sense of shared ownership and encourage people to take an active role in the care and future of their parks and public open spaces. Through initiatives such as Adopt-A-Tree, we are not only growing our urban forest, but also strengthening the partnerships that help keep our parks and public spaces welcoming, cared for and sustainable for future generations,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.
