City commences with road resurfacing in Bellville, Kuils River and Mitchells Plain

20 August 2026

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise residents of the roadworks projects along Strand Road between the Tienie Meyer By-pass and Peter Barlow Drive in Bellville; Van Riebeeck Road between Langverwacht Road and Gebhardt Street in Kuils River and along Jakes Gerwel Drive between Morgenster Street and Weltevreden Drive in Mitchells Plain. The roadworks commenced today, 20 August 2026 and will continue for the next four weeks if all goes according to plan.

‘Residents and business owners can expect some noise and congestion along these portions of road during this time. We thank you in advance for your understanding over the next few weeks. Road users will soon benefit from the improved road safety conditions and riding quality along these busy roads. Maintenance of our road network is one of the ways that we keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Bellville and Kuils River

These roadworks will be done at night between 19:00 and 05:30 from Monday to Saturday.

Mitchells Plain

The roadworks will be done between 09:00 and 15:30, Monday to Friday.

Works will include the milling and removal of existing asphalt surface and replacing it with hot-mix asphalt and the removal of damaged kerbs and installing new kerbs.

The City of Cape Town recommends that road users be cautious while work is under way, lower their speed, pay attention to road signs and be vigilant in and around the roadworks area.
