City opens R5 million grant-in-aid funding opportunity for community organisations

The City’s Community, Arts and Culture Development Department invites community organisations to apply for funding for programmes addressing substance abuse prevention, gender-related needs and early childhood caregiver training in vulnerable communities. Organisations can now apply, and the closing date for applications is 14 September 2026.
‘Community organisations play an important role in reaching residents who need support and responding to needs within their communities. This R5m in grant-in-aid funding will support registered organisations to deliver programmes in vulnerable communities, including substance abuse prevention, gender programmes and early childhood caregiver training. I encourage organisations that qualify to apply before the deadline and to make use of the City’s assistance if they need help with the process,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.
Registered organisations can submit proposals to implement Substance Abuse Prevention Programmes, Gender Programmes and Early Childhood Caregiver Training within vulnerable communities for the 2026/2027 financial year.

The Community, Arts and Culture Development Department has scheduled a series of information sessions.
Thus far, four have been held in Athlone, Kuils River, Khayelitsha and Retreat.
Two more are scheduled:
- 2 September 2026 - Parow Civic Centre, 12 Tallant Road, Glenlily
- 4 September 2026 - Belhar Civic Centre, Bloulelie Crescent
Both sessions will be from 10:00 – 12:00.
The closing date for applications is 14 September 2026 at 12:00. No late or incomplete applications will be considered.
All applications for grant-in-aid funding will be assessed in accordance with the Grants-in-Aid Policy and must conform to the Municipal Financial Management Act, Act 56 of 2003.
