City upgrades 1,5km of pedestrian footways in Summer Greens

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has started upgrading and maintaining approximately 1,5 kilometres of pedestrian footways along Summer Greens Drive in Summer Greens. The work is taking place from Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:30 and is scheduled for completion on Monday, 26 October 2026, weather permitting and in the absence of unforeseen delays. ‘Safe, accessible and well-maintained pedestrian pathways are an important part of keeping Cape Town moving. Summer Greens Drive is a busy route used every day by residents, learners and workers, and these footways provide an important link for people travelling through the area.

‘This project will improve the condition of the existing pedestrian infrastructure and help create safer, more accessible pathways for pedestrians. It also forms part of the City’s broader commitment to universal accessibility and non-motorised transport, ensuring that our road network works for all road users,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The project is also creating eight temporary work opportunities for labourers registered on the local job seekers database.

No road closures are planned as part of the project. Where road lanes are partially affected by the construction activities, stop/go traffic accommodation will be implemented to keep traffic moving and minimise disruption to road users.

The City thanks residents, pedestrians and motorists for their patience and cooperation while these important infrastructure improvements are under way.
