Comment on the City’s draft Animal Keeping By-law

About​​​​​​​

The by-law relates to, among other things:

  • the management of all animal-related matters, 
  • provisions supporting the essential processes in dealing with vicious attacks by dogs on persons and other animals, 
  • stray animals on roads and in public open spaces 
  • permitting of animals and poultry on property that is not zoned as agricultural, 
  • responsibilities of pet owners, animal keepers and residents in relation to the keeping of large (e.g. horse, mule, cattle) and small (e.g. pig, sheep, goat) animals, 
  • responsibilities of pet owners, animal keepers and residents in relation to the keeping of bees, 
  • nuisances and complaints that involve animals, and 
  • the impounding of animals and other pound-related matters within the City of Cape Town.

In terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, you can submit comments to the municipality in respect of the draft by-law.
