Hanover Park library celebrates 50 years of service
25 September 2026
Earlier today, the City’s Libraries and Information Service held an event at the Hanover Park library to celebrate 50 years of service to the community. The commemorative event brought together community members, loyal patrons, former staff and stakeholders for a nostalgic journey through the library’s rich history and lasting impact.
The library has proudly served the community for 50 years, providing residents with access to information, education, digital resources, and lifelong learning opportunities.
Since its establishment, the library has evolved from a traditional lending facility into a vibrant community hub that supports literacy development, skills enhancement, social inclusion and community engagement.

Over the years, the library has adapted to meet the changing needs of the community through the introduction of public access computers, internet connectivity, digital resources, educational programming, and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders.
The library has 2 308 active members with an annual circulation of 23 943 items. During the 2025/2026 financial year, the library welcomed 88 166 visitors and added 576 new member applications.
Hanover Park Library offers a variety of programmes and services aimed at supporting learning, personal development and community participation. These include:
- Children's storytelling and literacy programmes
- School holiday activities and educational workshops
- Access to SmartCape computer services and internet facilities
- Book clubs and reading promotion initiatives
- Heritage and cultural programmes
- Skills development and information sessions facilitated in partnership with community organisations
- Community outreach initiatives and collaborative projects with local stakeholders

‘We are extremely proud of this milestone and share the happiness of this moment with the community. From a small and humble beginning, the library has through the years provided a safe haven for children and patrons to enjoy reading and the many learning opportunities.
‘We would like to thank residents, staff members, volunteers, community partners and library users who have contributed to its success over the years. The library remains committed to empowering individuals through access to information, technology, literacy programmes, and inclusive services,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.
