Planned water supply maintenance from 5 to 10 September

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct planned maintenance and testing of the water supply network in several areas from Saturday, 5 September, to Thursday, 10 September 2026. The work may result in temporary water supply disruptions or low water pressure. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the schedule and prepare accordingly.
Planned water supply shut-offs
The following areas will experience temporary water supply shut-offs while maintenance and infrastructure work is carried out:
Bishopscourt
The City will temporarily shut off the water supply to Bishopscourt and possibly the immediate surrounds on Saturday, 5 September 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00, and again on Sunday, 6 September 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00. This will allow the maintenance team to replace faulty control valves on the water supply main.
Part of Schaapkraal
The water supply to Sandy Road, Schaap Road and possibly surrounding roads will be shut off on Saturday, 5 September 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00, and again on Sunday, 6 September 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00. This will allow the maintenance team to replace faulty control valves on the water supply main.
Ravensmead
The water supply to Ravensmead will be shut off on Sunday, 6 September 2026, from 09:00 until 12:00. The maintenance team will urgently install a control valve that will help reduce the impact of future water supply shut-offs.
Summerville, Hagley and Sunbird Park
The water supply to Summerville, Hagley and Sunbird Park will be shut off on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, from 09:00 until 17:00. This will allow the maintenance team to make a new connection to the 250 mm diameter water supply main serving these areas.
Plattekloof 1, 2 and 3 and Baronetcy Estate
The water supply to Plattekloof 1, 2 and 3, Baronetcy Estate and possibly the immediate surrounds will be shut off on Thursday, 10 September 2026, from 08:00 until 16:00. The shut-off will allow the City to assess the network and prepare for a future connection to the 225 mm diameter water supply main.
Residents in these areas should expect no water during the scheduled shut-off periods. Water tankers will be made available where required. Updates, including tanker locations where applicable, will be posted on @CityofCTAlerts on X.
Zero-pressure testing and network assessments
Zero-pressure testing and conditional assessments will be conducted in the following areas:
- Thursday, 10 September 2026, from 09:00 until 17:00: Ilitha Park, Harare, Monwabisi Park/Ndlovini, Kuyasa and Nkanini-Zwezwe, particularly the high-lying areas of Khayelitsha.
Some residents may experience low water pressure, while others may have no water during the testing period. It is not possible to predict precisely which streets will be affected.
Zero-pressure and step-testing help the City identify unmapped connections or inflows before installing zone-management infrastructure, such as pressure-reducing valves. Additional investigations will also be conducted to confirm that the existing infrastructure is operating effectively.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Effective pressure management helps reduce pipe bursts and water losses.
How residents should prepare
Residents in all affected areas are advised to:
- Store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers before the work begins.
- Keep taps closed during the disruption to prevent water loss or damage when the supply is restored.
- Bear in mind that complex maintenance work can sometimes take longer than anticipated.
- Avoid all repair and construction sites, which are off-limits to members of the public.
When the water supply is restored, trapped air in the pipes may temporarily give the water a milky appearance. If left to stand in a glass, it should clear.
