Residents advised of roadworks along Okavango Road

21 August 2026

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise residents, road users and businesses of roadworks along Okavango Road at the intersection of Okavango Road and Hennop Road in the Kraaifontein and Durbanville area. The work is planned to take place from today, Friday 21 August 2026 until 15 December 2026, if all goes according to plan.

The work will take place between 07:30 and 17:00 from Monday to Friday and from 07:30 to 14:00 on Saturdays.

‘We ask that residents please be patient while these works are under way as some noise can be expected during this time. These roadworks were identified through the City’s development approval requirements for a new development in this area. This upgraded road infrastructure will support and accommodate the increase in traffic generated by increased development in the Kraaifontein and Durbanville areas,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The road works will include:

  • Road and intersection widening
  • Stormwater drainage installation and upgrades, which will also reduce the risk of road flooding
  • Upgrading of intersection signalisation
  • Upgrading of streetlighting infrastructure

Although the same amount of traffic lanes that are currently available will remain available for the duration of the project, congestion can still be expected. Residents are therefore urged to use alternative routes while construction work is under way.
