Residents advised of roadworks in Durbanville

14 August 2026

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise residents, road users and businesses of roadworks along segments of Vissershok Road between Vlei Street and Plataan Road and along Wigan Way between the Belvedere Street Circle and the new entrance to The Avenue development in Durbanville. The work is planned to take place from Thursday, 13 August 2026 until Tuesday, 20 October 2026, if all goes according to plan.

The work will take place between 07:00 and 17:00 from Monday to Saturday.

‘We ask that residents please be patient while these works are under way as some noise can be expected during this time. These roadworks were identified through the City’s development approval requirements for the new The Avenue development and will provide safer and more efficient traffic movements at the Vissershok and Belvedere intersection through the introduction of a protected right-turn arrangement and improved acceleration and deceleration lanes,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The road works will include:

  • The widening of Vissershok Road at the intersection with Belvedere Street, including the construction of a new traffic island and the reconstruction and extension of the sidewalk towards Vlei Street.
  • Construction and upgrading of the Wigan Way entrance road serving the new development, including the roadway, sidewalks, stormwater infrastructure and municipal service connections.
  • The relocation of existing kerb inlets on Vissershok Road to accommodate the proposed road widening.
  • The construction of a new stormwater system on Wigan Way to accommodate drainage from the new road surface.
  • The existing streetlights on the southern side of Vissershok Road will be relocated to accommodate the proposed road widening.

Two-way traffic will be maintained where practical, and pedestrian and property access will be provided, however congestion can still be expected. Road users are therefore urged to use alternative routes while construction work is under way.
