Road resurfacing gets under way in Rylands, Gatesville and Surrey Estate

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has started roadworks in Rylands, Gatesville and Surrey Estate. Work takes place from 08:30 to 16:00, Monday to Friday, and is expected to continue until Friday, 13 November 2026, weather permitting and subject to any unforeseen delays.

‘Road resurfacing helps extend the life of roads. The old road surface will be removed and replaced with a new surface. Work on each road section usually takes one to four days, depending on the weather. Some damaged manholes, stormwater drains and other infrastructure may also need to be repaired first. I would like to thank residents in Rylands, Gatesville and Surrey Estate for their patience and understanding as we work to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The following roads will be resurfaced:

In Rylands: Hadji Ebrahim Crescent, Ruth Road and Murton Road

In Gatesville: Balu Parker Boulevard and Yusuf Gool Boulevard

In Surrey Estate: Ruimte Road

As part of the road resurfacing process, the Roads Infrastructure Management team will remove approximately 30–40 mm of the roadway and resurface each street with new asphalt. All existing road marking on the roads will be referenced and reinstated with retro-reflective road marking paint.

Utility work to repair or replace selected damaged manholes, catch pits, frames and chambers may be required in advance of the resurfacing. Temporary lane closures may be in place at times to allow teams to carry out the work safely.

These necessary works form part of the City’s commitment to maintaining and improving the road infrastructure in our communities.
