The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has completed repairs to the pedestrian bridge across Strand Street between the Cape Town Station taxi deck and the Golden Arrow bus station in the CBD, ahead of schedule. The bridge is now fully open, allowing pedestrians to safely cross Strand Street once again.

‘This project was more than simply repairing a bridge. It was about maintaining and protecting the City’s infrastructure; extending its useful life, ensuring that thousands of pedestrians can move safely and conveniently through our city,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

  • Replacing worn staircase timber treads with new hardwood treads, steel straps and high-quality fasteners;
  • Repairing and protecting the concrete support plinths; and
  • Cleaning and coating walkway plates and replacing failed fixing bolts.
  • Attending to rust and deterioration to the steelwork, handrails and walkway elements.
