Supporting the next generation of creative talent: City opens arts and culture Grants-in-Aid Funding
02 October 2026
The City’s Arts and Culture Development Branch invites applications for funding from organisations implementing arts, culture and heritage projects and programmes within the city. Applications are open from today, 1 October, until 30 October.
The City continues to invest in organisations and projects that use arts, culture and heritage to create opportunities, support talent and bring communities together. In 2025/26, the City allocated R3,81 million through the programme to 14 organisations supporting arts, culture, heritage and community development initiatives across the metro.
Projects may include programmes, productions, performances, public activations, arts and culture related training programmes and exhibitions. Proposed projects should promote inclusivity and accessibility and, where possible, ensure that participation is free or offered at a minimal cost to the public.
‘Arts and culture can open doors for people, nurture talent and create opportunities for communities to come together. I have had the opportunity to visit some of the organisations supported through last year’s Grants-in-Aid programme, including Masi Violin Outreach and Sbondaba Dance, and have seen first-hand the impact of the opportunities they create for young people.

‘These are exactly the kinds of programmes that can help young people discover and develop their talents, build confidence and find pathways into the creative economy. Last year, the City allocated R3,81 million to 14 organisations, and we want this funding to continue supporting accessible arts, culture and heritage opportunities across Cape Town. I encourage eligible organisations with strong, sustainable projects that can make a meaningful difference in our communities to apply,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Cllr Francine Higham.
Funding is available for the 2027/28 and 2028/29 financial years and organisations may apply for both years, by submitting a separate application for each financial year.
Proposals should focus on sustainable cultural and creative projects aimed at young people (7-35 years old) or vulnerable groups (women, children, seniors and persons with disabilities).
There are a several of requirements and supporting documentation required by applicants.

To assist organisations that want to apply, the City is hosting a round of public participation events.
