Third school netball tournament goes for goal

12 August 2026

The tournament at the Khayelitsha Stadium over the weekend was the third one organised by School Resource Officers within the City’s Law Enforcement Department. Teams from 10 high schools jumped to score, with the team from Iqhayiya the eventual winners.

The Law Enforcement School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit leads the way for the Safety and Security Directorate’s social crime prevention efforts.

Officers not only address anti-social behaviour, but aim to positively influence learners with cultural and sporting programmes.

‘Working with teenagers in high risk areas isn’t easy, especially as the officers are there firstly to assist in dealing with dangerous behaviour. They are going the extra mile to help build trust and teach healthy life habits. It’s tournaments like these which help to foster team work and cultivate positive behaviours. I commend the officers for keeping our young people engaged in such a hopeful and energetic way,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
