About

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate plans to upgrade Voortrekker Road in Maitland by dualling and widening the road infrastructure, and we want your input.

This project forms part of the City’s Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan and Congestion Relief Programme.

It proposes road infrastructure upgrades to the existing road corridor to improve the commuters experience through the establishment of universally accessible and well-integrated traffic alleviation measures.

Upgrading the road infrastructure will:

  • increase the road network capacity, and
  • improve the operations of public transport; active mobility; goods and services; and private transport.

The project proposes the following road infrastructure upgrades:

  • The widening of Voortrekker Road, between 4th Avenue and Station Road
  • The widening of Koeberg Road, between Voortrekker Road and Basson Street
  • The realignment of Camp Road with Voortrekker Road
  • The realignment of Sydow Street with Camp Road and Perth Street

In terms of Section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, you can submit comments to the municipality in respect of the proposed road infrastructure upgrades.
